We leave our friends in Keswick on June 25 but our flight to LAX doesn't leave Heathrow until June 29. We have a car and are looking for an interesting itinerary from Keswick ending at Heathrow 4 days later. Our flight leaves at 1615 and we're dropping the car at LHR. One consideration is where we'll be the night before the flight. We don't want to have to drive too far the next morning and we have to gas the car before turning it in. All suggestions welcomed.
A lot will depend on what kind of scenery/sights you still want to see. You can go down the west side- Chester, North wales, down Wye valley (or even down the West of England), Tintern Abbey and end up in Cotswolds for at least two nights. In Cotswolds you are about 1 and a half hours by train to London. Or you can keep the car and drop it at heathrow Or if you want something different- cut across to the east, you can go via durham cathedral, York, Lincoln (another great cathedral), Cambridge- or swing back after York and end up in Cotswolds again. Or doing the eastern route make a bee line for London and spend a few days there
