36 hours in London

I've been to London before, but all my travels to Europe thus far have been family vacations. In mid-April I'll be traveling to London solo for a conference but will have a day and a half free on the front side of that trip. I'm looking for hotel suggestions for solo travel (near University of London - Senate House) and ideas for sites that one would typically skip with kids in tow while my body adjusts to the time change. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Glenn- What are your interests? I'd think this would be a great time to induldge yourself! Maybe the War Rooms? Or spend all the time YOU want at the British Museum, or the Portratit Gallery, or Kew Gardens.... Or just wander around and people watch.. I'd love to have a day to walk from Covent Garden (looking at the stalls, I like) to Leciester Square, to Picadilly and down to St. James' churchyard market... take in some theatre, ahhhhhh I'm even more travelsick now....

Many thanks for the suggestions! I would also appreciate hotel recommendations for single room B&B nearby UL-Senate House - I have found direct suggestions to be much more reliable than Internet site ratings. Since I am alone I am looking for location AND best value (trying to $ave for another trip to Europe with the family this summer :)
Thanks!
