Hi everybody! So I'm going to Europe in May and I found a cool tour in London that takes you to Stonehenge, the Roman Baths, and Salisbury to see the Magna Carta for $80! It sounds like an awesome deal and almost too good to be true. The company is called Gray Line. Has anyone heard of them or been on any of their tours? Is it recommended? Or are there any other recommended tours for seeing all of those places? Thanks!
Corrin:
I have used this company twice and they are legit. I do not remember how much I paid 4 years ago but $80 is a very good deal. They will pick you from your hotel and then drop you back at the hotel for no extra charge. The stay in Salisbury will be short but you will be able to spend more time in Stonehenge and Bath. I vey highly recommend this tour as it is a bit tedious to get to Stonehenge if you have to do it yourself. I even used them to go to Naples and Pompei in Italy. Stick with Grayline and you will not be disappointed!!!!
I used them several years ago - too long ago for me to remember the cost, but it was a good day.
That's a pretty good deal. I went to Stonehenge in 2002 from London on my own, and I think the train $$ was around 50pound. By seeing the Magna Carta, I believe you will be at Salisbury Cathedral as they have one of the copies. I think there are 4 copies remaining.
The only thing I would check is if the $80 includes admission to the sites. I've heard of Gray Line but haven't used them myself.
Good Luck!
Gray Line operate as Golden Tours in London and you will travel in Golden Tours buses.
This year the coach companies have started offering tours that have an eyecatching price which on closer examination don't include admissions - check
If Stonehenge is a priority, there is a way to get inside the stone circle which is normally roped off. Astral Travels has a "Special Access" tour that picks up at a hotel near Victoria Station and takes you for a long half day trip to Stonehenge, Avebury and other megalithic sites. You are given admission before or after the monument is open to the public. It is pricey, but we really loved the experience of being able to touch and hangout with the stones for about 30-45 minutes. Check out their website if you are interested.
Hi Corrin,
We used Gray Line in March (they do business as "Golden Tours" in London) for a trip to Edinburgh and their prices were very good.
We traveled to Bath on our own. Advance tickets were 9.50 each way on the train, and then we picked up a Mad Max tour in Bath for trips to Stonehenge. Our group was very small, only about 12 people, which was nice.
Have a great trip!
Hi Corrin,
That’s a good deal, but you will get the standard 'tourist experience'. I would seriously think about doing a special access tour where you get inside the Circle outside normal hours. There are two ways to do that , book it yourself through English Heritage (Currently around £14 admission), or with a specialist tour operator (for both options see below). A lot of people are disappointed by Stonehenge, but the difference between getting inside the Circle and viewing at a distance from behind the ropes is 100%!
