My daughter will be going to Dublin City University for a semester abroad in February 2010 and we plan a 3 week trip to drop off plus 2 weeks in Ireland and 1 week in Wales. Plan to take ferry to north Wales. Looking for confirmation on 3 week car rental and transport to Wales via car ferry. or would it be better to rent 2 weeks in Ireland, foot ferry to Wales, then car rental again in Wales.
Costwise, unless you really want to take the ferry, you might want to rent a car in Ireland, drop it off, and fly to Wales, then rent another car.
We are doing a trip in December to visit our daughter doing a year in Cardiff. We had planned on the ferry and decided to fly Aer Arann instead in and out of Cork. Originally we'd hoped to go to Dublin and ferry to Wales and then get a car. Logistics didn't work out, but we did find that arriving on a Sunday from Dublin was a problem. None of the car rental agencies in Holyhead were open on Sunday.
Are you leaving from Wales or returning to Dublin? You could fly to Cardiff and drive up to North Wales (that's what we are doing from Cork).
Nancy nailed it. Two cars is much cheaper. Not sure about flights from Dublin to Cardiff, but Dublin to Leeds-Bradford is often pretty cheap and dumps you only a couple of hours from Conwy.
