I have never been to Ireland before and will be in Dublin for 3 full days in March. Here are the 2 itineraries I am considering: 1) 2 days in Dublin and a day in Belfast
2) 1.5 days in Dublin, 1/2 day exploring Bru na Boinne, Trim and Hill of Tara, and 1 day in Belfast. Should I just concentrate on Dublin with a quick side trip to Belfast, or is Bru na Boinne a must see? Thanks for your input!
In my opinion, Bru na Boinne is a must-see. It's one of the two day trips from Dublin that we most often recommend. It's a fascinating place.
Thanks so much!
"Quick side trip" to Belfast - how are you getting there? Train trip is 2 hours one way, bus is a little more - that's at least 4 hours out of your one "day". Personally, I wouldn't try to fit in Belfast at all, just focus on Dublin (2 days) with a day trip nearby. I regret I did not go to Bru na Boinne on my visit several years ago. Keep in mind if you do visit there, you have to get a timed entry and could end up spending more than a 1/2 day just there.
You can easily do Belfast as a day trip. The train is fast, and runs frequently. A Black Cab tour will give you a good overview of the city. Bru na Boinne does have timed entry, but in March you shouldn't have to wait longer than the next shuttle bus.
