Hi Everyone, We have only 3 1/2 days in Ireland and the tail end of a European vacation. We want to spend a couple days in Dublin and go to one other place. It looks like it's about a 2 hour drive to Galway and a 4 hour drive the the Dingle Peninsula. If we can only go one other place in Ireland, where should we go? We'll have a full day and would like to stay one night there. Also, any specific recommendations for restaurants, sights, in this place and Dublin? We like places that are not super touristy where we can get a local feel. Thank you, Jennifer
Thank you for the information!
I second the day trip to Newgrange. Doing both passages tombs (Knowth & Newgrange) was a powerful experience.
We just got back Monday, and did Newgrange our last full day -- of our 10 days in Ireland, it is easily my first or second most memorable experience.
One thing to bear in mind when driving in Ireland.. it will take you longer than the mileage charts indicate. Travel from Dublin to Galway on the highway could potentially be done in 2 hours - depends on weather and traffic. I think 2 hours Galway to Dingle is a bit tight - took us closer to 3 - that route is on 2 lane highways .. get behind a tractor and I can guarantee it will take you longer! Given how much time you'd spend driving, I 'd look for something closer to Dublin - you could do a daytrip to Newgrange - another option would be Powerscourt.
