My new bride wants to ride in ireland. We are spending 3 days in Dublin then heading out on the road with a loose itinerary. We may go to Galway or to Dingle or north of Galway. essentially we have 3 days to spend out of Dublin. Any suggestions on good places to ride?
We stayed at a B&B (also had self catering cottages) called Roundwood near the town of Abbyleix. Many of the guests were there to ride horses near Slievebloom Mountain. The owners will arrange to have the horses brought to their property--they have acreage but no riding trails. This area is a fairly easy drive from Dublin. If you have never been to Ireland you will be surprised at how slow the driving is and many roads unpredictable. It is a beautiful part of Ireland that seems to be overlooked as a destination. Have a great trip!
We went horseback riding a few weeks ago in Ventry, at Long's Riding. If you're not too familiar, Ventry is next to Dingle. If you're an experienced rider, Long's will take you down to Ventry beach and let you ride in the ocean. Wonderful scenery.
Jeff: If you go to the Graffiti wall there is a post under Outdoor Adventures about horseback riding in Ireland.
