My family and I are planning a trip to the UK in late May / early June of 2012. I am wondering if that will be early enough to beat the crowds arriving for the Olympics in late July?
The price of air tickets and hotels should give a clue. The higher they are, the more people will be going. Roger
The Olympics starts on the 27th of July, you will be ok. There will a lot of tourists but the Olympic crowd wouldn't be there yet.
Using Vancouver as an example, hotel availability did start narrowing around 6 weeks before the games... however, I was there around two weeks before, and with having booked around 6 months in advance, it was fine. More events going on, a little busier, but costs weren't up yet. Early June should be fine. The one thing that can affect things... what buildings are being used as pavilions. For example, Science World in Vancouver was closed for a long stretch as it was taken over and became Sochi House. Same thing for a portion of the Art Gallery.
