1st Trip to Ireland - Itinerary

Planning at trip late July-early Aug. with 2 teens. We're going to London for a few days and then to Ireland. I think we'll have about 6 nights and plan to fly to Dublin and out of Shannon. Things on our list: Blarney Castle, Dingle, Cliffs and Burren. We also want to spend a day in Kiltimagh in Cty Mayo. It is our ancestral home and still have a number of relatives there. Tryng to figure out the best path. My thought was to take train from Dublin to Galway and then rent a car? Or Dublin train to Cork and rent a car and head north? Ideas? thanks much

Since you want to see Cork/Blarney, you might as well head for Cork from Dublin. If you go to Galway and rent a car, you will have to backtrack - either heading to Mayo and back past Galway to go south, or south, then backtracking past Galway to go to Mayo. I drive when I am in Ireland, so I am not familiar with train schedules.

Driving from Dublin is easier if planning on renting a car anyway. Rent it when leaving Dublin and it's easiest from the airport. The drive to Cork is about 2 1/4 hours and you can stop at rock of Cashel on the way! Have a great trip
