We're using private tour guides to drive us between the English cities where we're staying and to show us key tourist sites in between as we don't want to attempt to drive in England. For every 100 pounds that we're spending, what tip amount is expected and/or appropriate for this type of service? Thanks.
Howard do you mean a private guide as in he /she is self employed? In which case I would not tip as he/she is receivcing entire fee.
If they are employed by a company I would tip but I can't suggest how much as I have never taken a private tour, just a group tour, and I avoid anything that involves me spending 100s GBPS.. For a group tour I might tip 5 GBP for a half day tour, 10 for full day, and only if I though tour guide did a GOOD job . If I thought guide phoned in her/his performance I might not tip anything..
Thanks, Victoria. Yes, they are self-employed and being paid well. Perhaps we'll just pay for lunch.
