We are planning to leave Split early in the morning on our next-to-last day in Croatia, and drive to Plitvice, see the lakes, then drive on to Zagreb that evening - we have an 0830 flight out of Zagreb our last day. Any recommendations on a Zagreb hotel near the airport, given how early we anticipate having to be there?

The Aristos will do in a pinch; but where do you turn in your rental car; airport or downtown? If, after turning in your car, you need to take a taxi to your hotel, it is guaranteed the driver will arrange to pick you up at YOUR time the next morning to the airport. First time for me I was dubious; after 6 times with an on-time taxi in the very, very early AM was convinced and slept well. Stay downtown, see the sights, have a pivo; it's not that far to the airport and at 0500, not a lot of traffic.
