Where to stay in Samos and Athens

We stayed at the Samos Hotel right on the main street near the ferry terminal. There was a really cute beach town not far from the center of town that I would have preferred has I known the area. Can't think of the name but it is on the way to the windsurfing school.

My wife an I stayed there several years ago and really like it. It is centrally located and near the underground. It has been renovated. The restaurant food was so good that we ate there every day.

We had a room with full bath which is unusual for hostels.

I don't know if your definition of 'moderate' is the same as mine, but check the Pan, Arethusa, Metropolis, Amazon, Cecil and Attalos Hotels. They're all within easy walking distance to the Plaka, Central Market, Syntagma Square and the Parthenon.

Thank you all for your posts. I am getting quite excited about the trip and these suggestions are excellent! I have checked the Attalos in Athens - no availability! I will check out the other suggestions.

I would also welcome any restaurant/ eating recommendations.
