My wife and I are planning a trip to Greece in August/September and trying to decide the main stops. Are there suggestions on where to stay in Athens, Hydra, and Santorini, in hotels that are both moderately-priced and quiet? Also, do you have suggestions on what to see or do besides beach activities? Thanks so much!
What have you budgeted for your hotel rooms? Please state what you're willing to spend-maximum-in Euro. Today 1 euro = $1.44
Where on Santorini do you prefer to stay, at one of the beach villages or on the cliffs overlooking the caldera?
Hi Lee,
Our hotel budget is 130 Euros or less per night. We are looking to stay in a place with a private bathroom and that is nicer than a hostel.
Also, we would prefer a place with a cliff view facing the caldera.
Thank you!
Joe
On Santorini you can visit archeological ruins, explore a volcano, and go wine tasting. My best memory of Santorini, though, remains sitting in a cafe in Thira near the top of the then donkey path to the caldera and watching the locals spread out their merchandise for the cruise ship tourists who were soon climbing up from their ships. We were in that cafe for probably 6-8 hours, talking with new friends, watching the locals, eating good food and drinking wine. It was magnificent.

Check the websites for these hotels: Scirocco Apartments, Hotel Mylos, Blue Dolphins Apartments, Villa Maria Damigou, Gizis Apartments, Delfini Hotel, Old Oia Houses, Thea Studios, Lena's House, Casa Sofia and Villa Kallisti. These all have a view of the caldera. Some offer breakfast and some are self-catering.
