What to do? 3 days in Greece

My wife and i are going for a short 3 day visit to Greece in September and we have no idea where to go other than Athens' Acropolis. Please help us make our itinerary. We were told about Olympia, Delphi, but don't know what to do in 3 days. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

It depends, of course, on what you are interested in. You can certainly spend a full day doing just the main sites - not only the Acropolis but the Keramicos, the Agora and the Theatre of Dionysus. And I'd want to save some time to sit out for a leisurely lunch - probably at the Byzantino in Plaka - and a good dinner - maybe at the Sigalas opposite Monastiraki metro station.

I'd then consider a day trip to the island of Aegeana. Only just under an hour on the flying dolphin (15 euros) and you'll get some idea of Greek island life. There are a couple of interesting sites on the island but it's nice to just wander around and in September you could also have a swim.

Finally a day trip out of the city: Chat tours do one day trips to Delphi or to Mycenae / Epidavrus / Nafplio. Details here

Which you do depends on what takes your fancy. In either case I would take sandwiches rather than go for the lunch included option.

If you have three full days or less and want to see any of the sights of Athens, I would recommend skipping Olympia. It's a great site but about as far as you can get away. You would be better off going up to Delphi (I like spending the night there as the town is wonderful after the tour buses leave). You could also do it as a day trip but it would be long. Corinth, Mycenae, and Epidaurus are all close to each other. This is an easier day trip out of Athens but you may want to drive to Nauplio or Tolo and stay the night there. To do all three of these in a day is possible but pushing it. A ride out to Cape Sounio is a half day trip; especially in the evening it's gorgeous. There are also numerous companies in Athens that run day trip out to local islands. It really just depends if you are more interested in natural beauty or archeology. I use www.allabouttravel.gr when I go to Greece and have had great service from them.

In addition to Athens, I would add Napflio. It was our final stop on our last vacation to Greece; we drove directly to the airport from there (can't remember exactly how many miles--but it was reasonable).
