visiting palace in warsaw

We have a limited amount of time in Warsaw. Which palace is most worth visiting? I understand that one was rebuilt, another survived the warswhich is better to see? Also, what is the best way to get from a hotel in central warsaw to Wilanow Palace?

Hania,
I think that either castle is worth seeing. Wilanow has beautiful grounds but the castle in Warsaw is stunning as well. There are a number of buses that run from Warsaw out to Wilanow. It's only 6 miles from the city center. I believe you can take the 116, 117, 130, 139, 163, 164, 180, 519, 422, 700, 710, 724, 725, or E-2 bus, but would probably check with your hotel for the schedules. Czesc!

The Royal Castle on Castle Square near old town is the one that was destroyed during WWII. It's been completely rebuilt and restored due to the efforts of the Polish people and is full of beautiful artwork. It's definitely worth a visit. Wilanow Palace is one of the few historic buildings in Warsaw that wasn't damaged in WWII. The unofficial "sightseeing" bus in Warsaw is bus #180, which will take you to both Wilanow and the Royal Palace.

Most of the city was razed by the Nazis. You will find though that everything that has been rebuilt was done with an almost obsessive attention to the details of the past, and it all looks "right". I stayed in a "400 year old apartment" that was rebuilt in the 50's!
