We will be in Athens one evening, a whole day and night and then another late morning - early afternoon. We want to see the Acropolis, the main reason for our trip and hang out at the Plaka which we can do on our first evening there. Would we have time to see the Acropolis and then a quick short ferry trip to a close island (Aegina) for a few hours. If so, what island would you suggest? Thanks.

The Saronic Gulf Islands are close, but realistically you would need most of the day to make it worthwhile. I would concentrate on Athens in that time, Do the Plaka both nights, and during the day do the Acropolis, the Agora, and the Archeological museum as well as a number of other sights.
