Visiting Croatia

We (and another couple)are flying into Munich Sept. 5 and will be renting a car to drive to Vienna then onto Split, Croatia and visiting my husband's family heritage outside of Split. Our trip will be for 10 days and wonder if there are any snags getting our car into Croatia? We would like to find good accommodation along the seacoast of Croatia including Split. thank you. Make sure the rental company knows what you're about so they can set you up with a car that has the right documentation. It'll probably cost you an extra twenty bucks or so, but if you don't don't the contract is void and it can get messy if something goes wrong. Otherwise, it's a piece of cake.

Do you have a copy of RS Croatia & Slovenia Guide Book yet? If so, great. If not, I would suggest you get one as soon as possible as it will have lots of information that will be helpful in your planning for that region. I just came home from a RS Adriatic Tour that toured Croatia and Slovenia and found that guide book very helpful.

Brigitte: Lots of driving: Munich to Vienna (abt 4 1/2 to 5 hrs); Vienna to Split (abt 8 hrs) and Split to Munich (abt. 9 1/2 hrs.) You will need to tell the rental company where you are going: Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. There will probably be a surcharge. You will also need to make sure you have a sticker for all the countries you are going into or through. They can be purchased at the border at a gas station. Some rentals come with that sticker already on the car, but some require the driver to obtain it. Here is a handy website that allows you to input your route and you'll get some idea about costs and times and driving directions. www.rome2rio.com This site also has links to accommodations. Hope this helps. Have a great trip.
