I am going from vilnius to krakow this year and would like to overnight on route, but not in a large city like warsaw.
I am finding it hard to find routes by bus or train. originaly i intended to go via Bialystok but cant find a way from Bialystok to krakow without going through Warsaw. If you have any suggestions to help on this trip i would be very grateful. Thanking you in advance.
Sure you want to go to Bialystok? This is a pretty large city, and if you ask me, not a nice one at all.
I've taken this route, and I'm pretty sure going through Warsaw is the only way. I used Warsaw as a halfway point, and I wish I had spent more time there and less in Krakow.
Janice, I encountered the same problem a few months ago. There are apparently only three ways to go, bus, train or fly, all of which take you to Warsaw. Most of the advice I got was to not go by train or bus (it's a long, overnight ride), so we flew on LOT from Vilnius to Warsaw, stayed a couple of days then took the train to Krakow. You could fly to Warsaw then hop on the next train to Krakow if you don't want to linger there, but Warsaw is definitely worth a day or two.
There is a town called Suwalki, from which trains leave directly for Lithuania. All other routes trabsit Russia or Belarus which, to our knowledge, require transit visas. Suwalki is on the train line from Gdansk.
