Vienna vs Prague

We are traveling to Europe on 9/12/12 for 2 weeks. We will be spending about 8 days in Paris. From Paris we will fly to either Vienna or Prague for the remaining time. Help me with your opinions on which city to visit.
Thank you

Vienna is grandiose and magnificent. Prague is medieval, picturesque with stunning scenery. Tough choice but if I have to then I would go for Prague.

Both are great cities and you can't make a bad choice. Also, I found both are pretty "walkable" if you are staying near the historic districts. This is strictly my opinion but Vienna has some super museums and interesting palaces. RS calls the crown jewels there the best on display in Europe. There is (advertised, I didn't take it) a good day trip down the Wachau portion of the Danube. Prague has the castle/cathedral complex, Jewish quarter, bridge, town square etc. There are several good day trips from Prague. I went to Kutna Hora and enjoyed it immensely (careful of the silver mine tour if you are claustrophobic, XL or tall.) There are some other day tours from there to some castles etc. I don't think you can really go wrong here. Enjoy

Our timing spent in both cities is fluid. It could be 8 nights in Paris, 5 nights in Prague or Vienna or 9 nights in Paris, 4 nights....
I appreciate everyone's response but still on the fence in making my choice. We are using starwood points for our hotels. Prague would be the Sheraton and Vienna would be the Hotel Imperial. Does that color our experience?

I think being on the fence reflects that both cities are great choices. Looking at where the hotels are on the map, the Imperial is right on the cusp of the Ringstraße. You can pretty easily walk to most of the major sights (Hapsburg Palace, Stephensplatz, museums and I believe it is fairly close to the underground which takes you out to the Schönbrunn Palace. The Sheraton is a bit farther away from the historic city center, Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter, Prague Castle etc. You would be pretty close to Wenceslas square.....still a hard call. I'd say the Sheraton is further from the action than the Imperial. Still (sorry) don't think you can go wrong.

If I were combining one of the two with Paris I would choose Prague, just for the fact as already stated that it offers a bit more diversity. Although I have to say I definitely prefer the food in Vienna, but the overall ambience I prefer Prague. However, either would be a wonderful choice.

Prague was the better choice for us. Each city has it's own style. You'll have to determine what's most Important to you.(We liked Berlin better than Vienna)

Is there any possibility of doing 7 - 3 - 3 ? Prague to Vienna is not a difficult trip by train and you could see each city well in those numbers of days.

We spent three days in Vienna, trained through Prague and spent three full days in Plzen, and were glad we did.

If I had to choose one it would be Prague. What I would do is take 3 days for Vienna and 4 for Prague. Two super great cities so different from each other but both awesome.
