My friend and I are going to Vienna and Salzburg in October. We have 4 days in Vienna. Is it worth it to try to take a one day trip to Budapest? Viator has a bus trip, but sounds as if the major sites are not covered and we prefer to explore on our own. Would it be too arduous to take the train for just one day?

SAve Budapest for another trip. There is plenty to see in Vienna in 4 days, and you can take a great day trip to the Wachau Valley.

I tend to be a commando gungho traveler, but I think that would be too much for one day. If you really want to see another city, perhaps Bratislava?
