vienna one night

I will be traveling though Vienna and arrive, at the airport, about 5 in the evening and leave at 10:30 the next day. Anyone have suggestions on where to stay and what to see for the evening? Closer to the airport? Inexpensive? thanks

Thanks Juno, I was wondering about getting back and forth from the airport with luggage but note that I can store it at the airport so only carry necessities into town. Coeur d'Alene, beautiful area and a great movie, Smoke Signals was placed up there.

You probably wouldn't want to do this when you only have one night but I thought I'd make the suggestion for anybody else who might be interested. In September we were in Vienna and went to the theatre to see Tanz der Vampire : Das Musical. It was fabulous and I highly recommend it to all. Its at the Ronacher which is very near Graben, and dinner at the Cafe Ronacher just across the road was terrific too. We bought our tickets from the booth by the Opera (same day) but you can get them online in advance.

The NH Vienna Airport Hotel (4*) is right at the airport and has reasonable prices. You can check Trip Advisor for reviews, photos and prices for your date. I liked it fine, not much airport noise, I think I paid around 100 Euros for 2. Public transportation is handy and gets you to Vienna in 20 minutes or so. You can spend a long evening in Vienna dining and seeing the sights, get a good night sleep, and walk just across the way to the airport. No early morning rush.

If you love art, Viena has some cool art Museums. Especially the fine art museum. The Albertina is nice too.

We stayed at the Grabben Hotel and it is right in the heart of everything, we took a cab from the airport and I don't remember it being expensive but it was fast. The hotel is worth staying at as it is central to everything and that is what you need so you can walk the car free zone. And if you are there in December you can walk to X-mas maket at City Hall

One thing to add - if you are traveling all on one ticket then just check all your luggage through to your final destination - that way you do not have to worry about it. Just make sure you carry the bare essentials with you for the overnight in Vienna.

We stayed at the Hotel Aviano, which was a good location. Staying on the Graben would be very good also. Ate weiner schnitzel at Figlmuller's and loved it. The strudel is even better than the sacher torte (have the hot chocolate too) at the Sacher Cafe. See if the screen and seating are up by the Opera, then have a free seat and enjoy the simulcast!
