vienna and prague with 2 days apiece

I think I've short changed myself from reading different posts, but the timeline is fixed. How would you maximize time in each city without feeling exhausted by the process?

Hi Peter,

If you have 2 full days apiece in each city then I wouldn't fret too much, you can chop a lot of wood in that time. What I'd suggest is to make a list of the top sights in each city you'd like to see and put them in order of priority. Maybe even make pins or marks on a map so you can get a feel for geographic compatibility, too. Using that as a guideline you could make a loose itinerary of your top 4-5 priority sights in each city and schedule, say, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (ex: Vienna Opera House tour in the morning, Hofburg Palace in afternoon). Meals, strolls, cafe time, and secondary sights could be built in around the main ones.

Michael's (above) itinerary is a good example to follow, however I would encourage you not to take any time away from Vienna to daytrip to Bratislava with such a limited timeframe.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies,
I like the idea of catching a concert in Prague as its not something I'd been aware of. Is it too much to try to get out to the Danube ferry for cycling along the river upsteam from Vienna, ie does it take a full day away from Vienna?I think its something we'd especially like to do.

I use the plastic Streetwise maps of cities (buy at Barnes and Noble), then take small colored dots and place them on the map on sites I want to see. A different color is for restaurants, etc. Then at a glance I can look to see what area I will be in most, for choosing a hotel, and for planning my daily itinerary.
