Ouch. We arrived in Turkey to be told that our "new lira" (YTL) bills are no longer valid ... That their currency is no longer the YTL but is now back to being named, simply, the "lira.".
We had gotten these notes for a trip a few years ago that was cancelled, so they are not the old, old lira (the devalued currency). The guide books we've been reading (which must also be out of date) talk about the "new lira" - YTL
What's the story? Will we be able to exchange them at a bank here (Istanbul) for new, valid notes?
