We will be in Turkey for 2 weeks and would love to go to a Turkish bath--Any suggestions? Should we do this in istanbul or go to one in a smaller city. Should we ask at the hotel to assist in finding a good one or does anyone have a recommendation?
looking forward to this answer as well.
the one in istanbul is pretty big and expensive compare to anything you find in small towns. you get the basic service first, then they offer you many options for addons. you should always negotiate for the additions - they're pretty good if you get the price down. the one in ist is easy to find if you decided to do it there. for small cities you can just ask the hotel for recommendations. i once had a free bath with a hotel in bodrum, and the hotel can call free taxi for you as part of the package.
Read Mark Twain's account of his visit to a public bath in Istanbul in his book "The Innocents Abroad." Hopefully the experience has improved since then.
My daughter and I took the 7 day Istanbul tour and we went to a Turkish Bath with 2 other women and our guide. She was a big help! We went to Gedikpasa Bath by the Spice Market. It was the most awesome experience ever! We did the bath plus a 40 minute oil massage. I would do it again in a heart beat.
Thanks for your suggestions. We will take part in a true Turkish bath.

Thanks as well.
was in turkey last summer. we opted to go to cemberlitas (sp?) while in istanbul. loved it. before we left, i read some mixed reviews on it but our experience was great. it was a weekday, probably around 5pm. we were ushered right in, about 8 or 9 other women in the place, were attended after about 10 min lying on the warm marble slab. it was a great experience. so relaxing. my skin has NEVER felt as soft and smooth as it did after this. and there is just something soothing about having someone else wash your hair. everything was very unrushed and relaxing. my only regret ....didn't do this sooner in our trip b/c if i knew how great it was, i would definitely have gone more than once!
Thanks for the great info. We leave Saturday. I am sure we will need a Turkish Bath early on.
Why limit yourself to just one experience?? ;-)
