I have a general question for check in times for domestic flights in Turkey. I have three flights (Istanbul to Kayseri, Kayseri to Izmir, and Izmir to Istanbul). I am flying Turkish airlines for the first, Pegasus for the second, and Aegean for the last flight. Pegasus noted on my itinerary that check in two hours before flight was recommended (flight leaves early in the morning). I have a friend who grew up in Istanbul that has told me the check in times in Turkey are not as strict. So, is check in an hour before a flight ok?
I was in Turkey in Sept and flew around the country on both Turkish Air and Pegasus. I had flights from Istanbul to Kayseri and also Istanbul to Izmir. I never found a 2 hour check-in time required or necessary. I went with my standard of about an hour and half and was always without issue.
About 3 years ago we took a number of flight in/out of IST, GZT, and ECN and just gave ourselve the normal 60-75 mins and had no issues. I definitely wouldn't go 2 hrs prior to dept esp for a very early flight.
For the domestic flights, 60-90 min. would be fine. However, never leave yourself less than 60 min.. If the flight is oversold, you may be bumped the later you check-in. If you can check-in online, prior to arriving at the airport - even better! Also factor in traffic, esp. for IST.
