does anyone have any experience with a guided tour of Turkey, other than Rick's tour? I've done a RS tour (Italy) and loved, it - just looking at possible options for Turkey. We would hope to tour in September or October, and would anticipate visiting Athens either before or after.
Although I have only used them on a day tour, I was very satisfied with Ekol Travel and our guide Ali. Ali usually leads the long trips, but since we were there in February, he was available for just a day tour. Ekol is not as promminently reviewed on TripAdvisor and the like. They had been recommended to me by another mother as they don't require you go to a high-pressure leather/rug/pottery factory "tour" like other companies always include. Hope you find some good recommendations!
I'm taking a 5 day tour of Cappadocia and Nemrut Dagi and Urfa with Rock Valley Tour. They've assisted with other services as well (booking flights and accommodations in other cities). My trip is until mid-May, so I'll have to let you know how it goes. The company comes highly recommended by Tom Brosnahan, an expert in Turkey travel and author of the website turkeytravelplanner. You may find some useful information on the website. Good luck and happy travels!
Kathleen, RS lists a couple of tour companies on his site under "Our Turkish Friends": www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/turkey/turkey_menu.htm Both of them are run by guides that have led RS tours. Mehlika Seval was the guide on my RS tour 20 years
ago and she was fantastic.
You can't go wrong with the Tauck Tours.
SRM Travel leads the Rick Steve's tours. They also have other tours. http://www.srmtravel.com/ Also, a former SRM guide (and Rick Steves' guide), Sidar Duman, has his own company now. Avanti Tourism
http://www.avantitourism.com/ I think you'd be pleased with both.
Kathleen, we took a tour a number of years ago with Pacha tours and were very pleased with it. If they are still doing tours, you might want to consider them. It was a good value, and our tour guide was excellent. Enjoy your trip!
Than you everyone for the suggestions!
