Trying to plan a 14 day honeymoon between Late may to early June. We would like to start in Istanbul, spend three days or so and then travel to 3 or 4 Greek Islands. We both would love some Island recommendations that are nice but a little less touristy and off the beaten path. We still however, plan to stop at either Santorini or Mykonos. Thank you!
Michael, you need to have a good picture of the island network otherwise you'll be planning a route that requires a flying carpet! Here's a great map of the Greek isle (click to enlarge) http://www.explorecrete.com/crete-maps/images/greece.gif ... here's the ferry network in High Season http://www.greeceathensaegeaninfo.com/ferry-info-greece/greek-islands-ferry-chart.htm There is no flight from Istanbul to an island, only to Athens. My suggestion get a cheap-o flight Istan. to Marmaris or Bodrum, then quick ferry to RHODES ... spend 3 days. Then 3x per week there's a NEW ferry route with New vessel, Blue Star I or II, 5pm- midnight, RHODES to SANTORINI. Spend 3 days there then move on to a nearby island like Paros, Ios, or Naxos. OR, very untouristy island in May-June, MILOS. For a quick overview of attractions of each, this website by a young greek shows the highlights: beaches, food, nightlife ancient sites http://www.greek-islands.us/ Final thought: don't fall in love with any one island until you know for sure you can get there in your time frame.
Their flights are seasonal, but Atlas Jet flies from Istanbul to Mykonos during the summer months. They have a website. Another option would be to take a bus or plane to Izmir, then another bus to Selcuk for a look at Ephesus, then a ferry from Kusadasi to Samos. From Samos you can get to Mykonos and eventually to Santorini.
Hi We are trying to travel from Mykonos to Instanbul in early September. Do you know if Atlas Air are still doing these flights then. I will check the website but know that most of them arent showing their summer season flights yet. Thanks
Janderra
Sorry, I don't know. Try sending them an email to ask.
Kay, take a look at Aegean Air. I booked a flight from Istanbul to Mykonos. I'm sure they do the opposite.
