Has anyone rented a car and drove the region between Dalaman and Antalya? Is the road as narrow, curvy and crazy as the Amalfi Coast road in Italy? We really want the freedom of having our own vehicle but are concerned about reports of poor driving conditions. We have driven in Portugal, Italy (for three months), German and Czech Republic.
I have driven the stretch of road you ask about and although it is curvy and often crazy with congestion I would recommend it. I drove from Silifke to Bodrum in it was a pretty slow drive but beautiful. To my way of thinking, you just can't beat the convenience and chances for adventure that a car offers.
It's one of the world's most beautiful drives, in my opinion, and there are plenty of pull overs to stop to admire the views--and for those so inclined, to take pictures. The road is in excellent condition but it is quite twisty in places, so I wouldn't travel it at night. Besides, you'd miss the scenery! But other than that, you should have no problems driving that route.
We have driven this route in Turkey and also driven the Amalfi Coast. Both are beautiful but the Amalfi Coast is much curvier and slower. The roads in Turkey were great, no problems at all.
I'm envious!
