Has anyone done the drive from Antalya to Cappadocia? We will either drive it on our own or take an overnight bus. We have read that driving in Turkey is nutso and so are hesitant (although we are driving from Izmir to Antalya). I am entranced with the idea of being on the Silk Road, stopping along the way etc etc. but I think it is a 6 -8 hour drive from Antalya to Cappadocia. Thanks!
Driving that route is not "nutso" at all. Good roads, pretty straight, so no trucks trying to pass on curves (which really does happen on those mountain and coastal roads!)
If you have the time, you could break up the journey with an overnight in Konya. Fascinating old mosques and the Rumi Mausoleum, which is quite moving and evocative. (Rumi was an Islamic mystic poet and religious thinker who founded the so-called 'whirling dervish" sect.)
There are several very well preserved (and a passel of not-so-well-preserved) caravanserai along the way between Antalya and Cappadocia, too. A stop and exploration can be done in as little as half an hour.
I have done this drive and it was fine. Roads are great.
