We are going to Turkey in October. We'd like to see the Cappadocia region and Ephesis/Izmir in addition to Istanbul (where we are staring for 3 nights). Any recs on housing in these areas and transportation between. I'm figuring Turkish flights will be the easiest - how do we book these? We only have about 9 days.
Thanks!
Booking flights online may be a challenge. Besides Turkish Air, there are several low fare airlines: Onur Air, Pegasus, Sun Express and IzAir. But some routes--especially to Cappadocia--are not flown every day. And the websites, last I checked, are in Turkish only. If you want to experiment with schedules, "nereden" means "from where" and "nereye" is "to where." Gidis-donus means round trip, and tek yon is one way.
The nearest airport to Cappadocia is probably Kayseri, though I think in the past Turkish Air has flown into Nevsehir, which is a bit closer to the places in Cappadocia you will want to see. You should check for both cities. Also, if you get a choice in airports leaving Istanbul, Ataturk Airport is much more convenient than is Ssbiha Gokcen.
I would recommend you contact a Turkish travel agent online and arrange your air bookings through them. It's challenging enough to do if you can understand the websites, but if you can't I suspect you won't be able to do it.
Hi Kate,
We're making a similar trip to Turkey soon. We were able to book tickets online for the flight between Istanbul and Izmir on Atlas Air. The fare was about 44 Euro.
We booked tickets on Turkish Airlines from Nevishir Airport back to Istanbul. The fare was about 50 Euro.
We will probably take the bus and make stops along the way between Selcuk and Urgup where we're staying in Cappodocia.
