I will be spending four days in Turkey. I have been to istanbul before but am wondering if anyone has cheap accomodation suggestions or any places I may have missed on my first trip? how hard is it to get to other areas of Turkey like Ephesus?

To get from Istanbul to Ephesus, you can take a train or bus, but it's a long ride because you have the Sea of Marmara in the way. I suggest a cheap flight (via Onur Air or perhaps Pegasus Air) to Izmir, which is quite close to Ephesus. Staying in Selcuk is vastly preferable to Izmir--Selcuk has several lovely and inexpensive pensions, Izmir is a characterless modern city with expensive hotels. In Selcuk, I recommend the Hotel Bella--ridiculously cheap, they will arrange a pick up at the Izmir airport, and they will transport you to Ephesus and back when you are done. Good food, comfortable lounging area, and stork nests to admire during breakfast and dinner time...
