Turkey and Greece

We are planning a 2 week trip to turkey and Greece, hoping that all is peaceful there. We will be leaving the end of Sept. our week in Turkey seems set. It's the second week that's confusing. We've never been...it's our first visit. Any suggestions for a balance of history in Athens and a taste of the islands?
Thanks.

Suggestions depend on where you are at the end of the week in Turkey. If it's near Kusadasi you can take a ferry across to the Greek island of Samos. If it's Ayvalik you can go to Lesvos. If it's Cesme you can go to Chios. If it's Bodrum or Marmaris you can go to Kos or Rhodes. All of these islands have airports for flights to Athens. Rhodes has the extra advantage of direct flights to Crete on SkyExpress and Cyprus Air. Assuming you're flying home from Athens, save Athens for the end so you don't have to stress out about getting there at the last minute for your flight. You really don't have enough time to island hop by ferry. With one island and Athens your week will fly by in a flash.

I took my grandson to Istanbul a few years ago and from there we flew to Greece for a couple days. We stayed in Athens at The Acropolis View (good price and location) saw all the usual sights and took a bus tour as it was really hot. From there we took a bus to Nafplio and it was a highlight of out trip. We loved everything about it...location, sights, ambience, the sea, etc. and it was a really nice way to chill out after an intense time in Istanbul and Athens. It was a great choice for us as we didn't have a lot of time either.
