Trips to Delphi and Peloponnese

I am interested in experiences with the various short guided tours offered from Athens. We mostly travel on our own, but think going with a group for a few days might be best in this case.

Thanks. Marian

I recommend you contact both Fantasy Travel and Dolphin-Hellas Travel in Athens to see what sort of tour they can arrange for you. These two travel agencies come highly recommended. They are widely known for their excellent communication practices, reliability and follow-through with visitors to Greece. It's best to have someone in Greece you can call if something goes wrong.

Thanks. I am in contact with Dolphin-Hellas but was also hoping to hear from people who have actually taken the tours.

I'd say it's really a matter of how much time you've got. It's worth going on a tour if it's your only way to see the various places, but if you've got a bit more time it's worth doing it yourself.

The big benefit, for us anyway, is being able to get on sites early in the morning or late afternoon when most of the tour groups are gone.

My experience is only with day trips - we've done both Delhi and the Argolid this way, although some time ago.

The problem we had was being rushed around the sites and then stopping for a souvenir buying 'opportunity' on the way back. The first time we did it we also made the mistake of getting the inclusive lunch. The food itself was mediocre and again we spent time in a hotel dining room when we could have eaten sandwiches on the site.

That sounds very negative but I'm glad we did both trips. At the time it was the only way we could get to see these sites, and it made our minds up to come back and do them 'properly'.

I assume you already have the details of the main tour companies, but in case not

Oh dear. I took basically the same multi-day trip 43 years ago as a college student, and re-reading the letters to my (now) husband, most of what I wrote was complaining about the food. And that was from someone used to living on bread and cheese! I will see what Dolphin-Hellas says about reactions to the food.

My wife and I took daily guided bus tours out from Athens during the week we were there.

You can choose the destination, length of tour and cost. I recommend doing that because you have an English speaking guide who is easy to understand.

When you arrive in Athens, phone a travel agent to ask about bookings.
