Trips from Eastern Czech or Poland

We will be in Trinec, Czech Republic near the Poland border (past Ostrava). Looking for a few days to spend exploring Czech or Poland. Will have a 10 year old with me so it has to appeal to her as well. Any suggestions? Flying in and out of Prague and we've spent 3 or 4 days in Prague before.

Day One Trinec to Štrbské Pleso, in the High Tatra mountains of Slovakia. Day Two
Štrbské Pleso to Krakow, Poland Day Three Krakow back to Trinec I am assuming you have a car. If not then the Kempinski in Štrbské Pleso can take care of the first two legs and the hotel in Krakow might be able to help with the third. I've been in the tatras and they are beautiful. Activities, castles, fishing, villages, river raft rides, hiking,

I spent an overnight in Olomouc (recommended in the Rick Steves Prague book) and liked it. In 2007, it was just starting to be "polished" the way Prague and Czesky Krumlov already had been, which was interesting. I have no idea how it's changed in the intervening years, and I don't know if it will appeal to a 10 year old. But Olomouc isn't far from Ostrava, so you may want to look into it.

Cesky Krumlov is a great visit. A hint, the tourist busses come late morning and leave at mid afternoon so you want to spend a night so you can have the better part of an afternoon and evening one day and the better part of the next morning with out too many tourists. The Hotel Dvorak is perfectly situated and has one room with a balcony view of the castle which is stunning at night. For the 10 year old there are some river activities and what kid wouldn't want to peek inside a castle. Don't miss the bear in the moat as well.

I agree with James that Czesky Krumlov would be wonderful for both you and your 10 year old. I didn't mention it because it's at the "opposite end" of the country from where you will be, but if you can get there, do go!

My first choice would be the road trip I suggested. you get mountains, rivers lakes villages, luxury, history across five hundred years, great people and great architecture all in one compact trip.

Thank you all for your suggestions! We've visited T?šínské Beskydy mountains near T?inec and they are absolutely beautiful. We rode the ski lift to the top and hiked down and it was breathtaking.
