Traveling to Greece

Our family (including 2 children ages 9 and 11) would like to travel to Greece for about 7-10 days from Italy in mid-March or mid-April. We would take the ferry from Italy to Greece. Should the recent riots in Athens be a cause for concern? Does anyone have any suggestions of what islands to visit? Are there any particularly kid-friendly places or activities we should include in our trip? Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about the recent riots. As far as itinerary suggestions, log on to Matt Barrett's website at www.greecetravel.com/ He has a wealth of good information. However, IMHO, you could spend 2 or 3 days in Athens, 4 or 5 days (or more, if you wish) traveling Delphi and the Peloponnese by car. Mykonos (and Delos), Santorini are probably the most visited by tourists. Samos is big, green and has some great beaches; you can take a day trip to Kusadasi and Ephesus. Crete is great if you have the time. Lots of choices. Weather may be a bit nippy in March; better in April.
