Traveling in Turkey

My husband and I will be traveling to Turkey in June. We are staying six nights in Istanbul and wondering if a one day trip to Ephesus, flying out in the morning and returning in the evening, is a good idea. We want to see Ephesus but don't necessarily want to move from our hotel to another one for an overnight stay.

you may consider just to bring enough stuff for an overnight in selcuk while leaving the majority of you stuff in IST. seclcuk and the surrounding area is well worth an overnight on top of ephesus - there are few good sites you shouldn't miss while you make a great efforts to get to that area.

Ephesus is quite a site; stay overnight if you can, if not then do the one day trip. I love ruins and history & think it compares favorably for example to the Forum in Rome. Can't imagine you not liking it.

If you have a night or two to spend in Selcuk I would highly recommend it. My husband and I went last May and agreed that after a week in Istanbul, 3 days in Selcuk was a very welcome change. Ephesus could be seen in a day, but it would make for a long day, especially if flying in and out on the same day.

I am throwing my weight behind staying overnight. Too much to see in Efes, not enough to see in Instanbul to warrant that long of a stay. At least not enough to skip Efes for

I like the suggestion of spending a night in Selcuk and leaving most of your stuff at your hotel in Istanbul. If you do so, we'd recommend a stay at Hotel Bella - they will arrange everything for you, drive you to Ephesus, and you can even have a nice dinner at the hotel. A cab is probably the best way to get from Izmir to Selcuk though we took the minibus/dolmus. We flew Atlasjet from Istanbul to Izmir.
