Interested in suggestions as to how my son and I can travel from Budapest to Venice in early July. Looking at Eurorail select passes seem like one option. If someone has a suggestion it would be much appreciated

Before I buy RR tickets I always compare cost of buying point2point tickets with the cost of the RR pass covering the countries I will travel in. I have often found p2p cheaper.

That's a long train ride. I would suggest plugging your the desired dates of travel into www.skyscanner.net . You could get a hopper flight as cheap as $60 one way & it takes a lot less time than the train.
