Traveling from Berlin to Prague by train in July. Question re Terezin visit

Hi. Would like to tighten our itinerary up as we have limited time in Prague. We are taking an early morning train from Berlin to Prague. There are apparently 3 stops, Dresden, Bad Schandeau, and Decin(forgive spelling). I would love to get off and somehow get to Terezin("Model" Concentration Camp)which appears on a map to be in the general vicinity of the berline -prague route, then take bus or cab etc back to train later in day and continue to Prague. Is this an option or should we just get to Prague and do Terezin the next day? Problem is we have really really limited time in Prague. thanks for any input.

We would arrive in Prague mid day on a Tuesday, Have a full day Wednesday and Thursday. Departing mid day on Friday.
Another question: I have priced the train ride from Berlin to Prague and it is about $155.00 per person. No connections although it does stop in a few cities. That seems pricey doesn't it? It is only a 4 hr ride.
I also priced a flight and a non stop was over $400.00. Seems crazy that it is so $$ to get between these two cities. Any suggestions?

Barbara, Terezin is only an hour bus ride from Prague, so I would think you will be better off to see it as a day trip, rather than trying to stop by there on your way from Berlin.

And, yes, $ 155 is pricey. Check the DB website and you can get tickets for as little as € 29 to € 39 each if you book far enough in advance.

I'm pretty sure the trip is longer than 4 hours. But it is a beautiful trip after Dresden. Make sure to have a window seat!

One option is to hope off in Dresden and spend a few hours there. The station is right next to the center, which was rebuilt after the devestating fire bombing in the War.

Yes, you can stop in Terezin on the way to Prague. From Berlin buy ticket to Litomerice. You will get off the Prague train in Usti nad Labem hlavni nadrazi. There you change trains to Usti nad Labem zapad then change train again and go to Litomerice. From there Terezin is short way either by bus or taxi. Then from Terezin you can go to Prague by bus. It seems little complicated but it's not bad. You can find departure and arrival times on Deutsche Bahn website. There are many trains to choose from.

Terezin is definitely worth a visit. However, you don't have an abundance of time there, and if you choose to do a daytrip I would probably vote for Kutna Hora and the silver mines.

The problem with stopping in Terezin on the way to Prague is what to do with your luggage. There is no bus station there. Maybe you could arrange with one of the hotels to store your bags for a fee? Then you would have to walk (about 15 minutes) to the fortress, then back again to the town. There is a lot to see both at the fortress and in the town.
