Travel to Wisla, Poland

I am trying to find some information about traveling to Wisla in southern Poland. Specifically I am trying to find out info about how to get there by train and by bus. I have been to the city's website, but links to bus and train info are in Polish. Does anyone have any info or ideas?

Hi Kevin, I can't tell you for sure how to get there, but Poland has an extensive,(relatively)easy to navigate bus system. Since Wisla is a resort town, there may be direct buses from Krakow. However, you may have to go to Bielsko-Biala or Zywiec (of beer fame) - two of the larger towns in the area - first and then catch another bus. You could probably also get there from Katowice which is the regional capital. There are regular trains and buses between Krakow and Katowice. You don't say if you are flying into Poland or if you are coming in by train or bus. But if you can get to one of the towns I mentioned, you will most likely be able to find a local who can tell you which bus to catch. Most young people speak some English, and many are eager to have an excuse to practice. I traveled around southern Poland a fair amount and I basically just winged it (winged it?:P) Sometimes you have to be like Blanche DuBois and "rely on the kindness of strangers". Fortunately, most Poles are very kind. Just in case you don't know, Wisla is pronounced Veeswa and is also the Polish name for the Vistula River and the name of a popular football (soccer) team, so be sure to clarify that you are talking about the town :) Good luck!

A couple of ideas. The German Bahn site is often good for European travel overall. It's been a couple of years since I planned a trip on Polish rail and I can't recall how I found what I was looking for - maybe Deutsch Bahn? In 2010 the trains were dirt cheap, hopefully they still are. Google Chrome has a translate option that seems to work pretty well. You can try that too. As I recall Poland has three seperate rail "systems". They all use the same rails and stations but rather than having three types of trains that all run as one company, like Deutsch Bahn, the Polish trains run under different brand names and require different tickets. Be sure you're checking all before you decide the best train ticket for you (DB may do that for you automatically, just don't be surprised if you see different company names for the trains).
