travel from Bohinj(Slovenia) to Korcula (Croatia)

We are planning to travel from Bohinj(Slovenia) by rental car on a Saturday in August.

I know this is going to be a long journey but I was hoping for some advice;
1) Can there be delays on the Slovenia/Croatia boarder control ? Is there a best place to cross.
2) How reliable are the motorways in terms of congestion.
3) I am particulary worried about the ferry from Split. Would you recommend going from Split ? I am worried about the frequency of the ferries, in case we get delayed. Also the advice is to get to the port early.
4) Would a better option be to get the ferry from Orebic. This is further to drive, but the ferries are more frequent.
5) Any advice on which rental car company to use. We will be picking up and dropping off at Ljubljana.
Thank you

A few years ago, I rented a car in Ljubljana for a drive into Croatia and back. I crossed the border at Metlika when entering Croatia and on the Zagreb-Ljubljana motorway upon my return. Both crossings were easy and fairly quick. You'll save some time and money by exiting the Slovenian motorway at Novo Mesto and taking local 105/6 to Karlovac to pick up the A1 motorway to Split. Budget offered the best price for an in-town pick-up when I rented. You might check a website like Travelocity to see who rents from your preferred location and then check prices on their websites. That's what I did. Make sure the rental company allows travel into Croatia - not all did when I rented. Haven't used the car ferries, so can't help you with that part of your question.

?You may find traffic on the narrow roads in
that area to be congested on a Saturday.

We drove through Slovenia several days and
found the roads to be very slow because of
the surface condition and narrow right-of-
way. There may be motorways now.

I don’t remember delay at the crossing, but
much will depend on time of day you pass. We entered at the western most point which I don't remember.

I would take the ferry from Split. But consider the mileage both ways.

We took our car in Frankfurt; so I can’t
suggest an agency for Ljubljana. I would
research the web for ANY agency which
will have the car size and cost you prefer.

I always recommend Sixt.com, a German
agency, but they may not be in that city.
