Travel between Greek Islands

We are told that the weather in October is unstable making travel on ferries between Greek islands somewhat unpredictable. What about flying between islands during the first weeks of October? Any troubles?

It's not nearly as problematic to fly. The winds seldom reach the strength that will ground a plane. The problem is that almost all flights between islands require a return to Athens for a plane change, which means an added expense, so if that puts flying out of your reach budget-wise you will either have to depend on the ferry system or stick to the mainland if you don't want to chance it. On the bright side, the winds in October are not typically strong enough on a predictable basis to stop the large car ferries. The smaller highspeed catamarans such as the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCat 4 or the Sea Jets 'SuperJet' are another story. They can bob around in the water like corks when the seas are rough and should be avoided at all costs if you're prone to seasickness. But if you have no choice but to take one of these two try to get a seat along the centerline of the ship so the side-to-side rocking is kept to a minimum. These two are enclosed ferries and there is no outside deck area, by the way.
