Can anyone recommend the easiest and cheapest way to get to the airport from Prague? I know there is a tram but don't know how difficult it is to use when we're carrying luggage, etc. Is there a recommended shuttle service?

We have used Mike's Chuffeur Service. A little more
expensive, but worth the difference. See page 154
of Rick's 2006 Prague.

You can use a combination of Metro and bus. It's a headache. Added to that there are always plenty of lowlifes hanging around the Prague metro, pickpocketing and scam artists are a problem. I'd advise you to ask your hotel to call a taxi and fix an agreed rate for you. Sure it costs more but it's quicker and safer and a good hotel is not going to deliver a customer into the hands of a crooked taxi company. If you are really determined to use the metro/bus option the state travel agency Cedok will advise you on the 'hows' and 'wheres'.

Oh yeah - should have added that Cedok have very visible offices all over the centre of Prague - they are very helpful.

We just returned from Prague one week ago today. To get to the airport we used a driver arranged for us by Karolina Zadrozilova who is a local guide recommended by other readers posted on this site. She was wonderful and the driver she arranged for us was prompt and got us to the airport in good time. Contact Karolina via email: Z.karolina@sezman.cz. We also used her for a guided tour of the city to get oriented and it worked really well.
