Has anyone linked Sicily and Greece in the same trip? Any experience with transportation options for ferry and/or budget flights between the two? Thanks!
There are no ferries between Sicily and Greece. Also, there are no direct flights - you will have at least one stopover if you fly, most commonly in Rome.
We're beginning to think that these two destinations would be better as two separate trips - one to Greece and another to Sicily. Would you all agree?
It depends on how much time you have in total, how much time you are willing to spend in transit between these two destinations and where in Greece you want to go. If Sicily is your last stop in Italy before Greece you can make that trip in one day by plane by flying from Sicily to Rome for a connecting flight. Aegean Airlines offer periodic discounted international flights from Rome to Athens. Sign up for their email newsletter and you'll be notified about 6-8 weeks before the time period offered. If you want to go to one of the more popular Greek islands during high season there will most likely also be some Italian charter flights available from Rome to Crete, Mykonos, Corfu, Santorini, Kos and Rhodes. You'll have to do some research to find the Italian travel companies that offer these.
