transport in Croatia

Good evening I like to ask everyone here. What are the best options for ground transport to get from Split Croatia to Zagreb. What buses or trains are best to use? and budget?
Thanks

Trains are limited in Croatia, buy there is a main line from Split to Zagreb. Buses are more popular and common, but split/Zagreb may be a long trip by bus, maybe requiring a stop. You can also look at air, there are cheap flights within Croatia, it might be a good option. Try doing some basic searching, Lonely Planet may have some good cost estimates as may the Rick Steves books.

John - Check for cheap flights between Zagreb and Split - I got an "early" morning flight on Croatia Air a few years back for about $40 - (It was a sale) it looks like their best price is now is 640k (about $129 US) . But is also looks like you can get an Europe by Air segment and that is only $99 -- 30 minutes in the air vs 6(? )hours on a bus (not really sure how long the bus is) seems like a good option.

I took the bus, but that was because I stopped in Plitvice National Park on the way - highly recommended.

I am getting this correct. Getting into Croatia by train is not a problem and Zagreb to Split by train is easy but the coast is either, bus, rent a car or boat. How is the drive from Zagrab to PL then to Split? I am going solo so I am curious about it. I would rather train because it is down time though Brian

There is a high speed train between Zagreb and Split which gets to the coast in just a few hours nicknamed the "Tilting Train". I took it several years ago. For me, that would still be the best option. From Split, not really any train service further south I took the bus from there to Dubrovnik.

John, et al, Thanks for the questions and several answers. I'm still in the detailed planning for a trip that way, but replies confirm some of what I've found. For train info, I don't care much for RailEurope, but often use the Deutsche Bahn site mentioned often. For bus service, check www.CroatiaBus.hr (too easy, right?).
I, too, have heard of lowish fares on Croatian Air, and plan on a Zagreb-Dubrovnik flight. Handily, the airline also offers bus service between city and airport. Check www.CroatiaAirlines.hr/en and www.PlesoPrijevoz.hr Of course, there's always www.SkyScanner.com

Take the bus and stop at Plitvice along the way for a day. :)
