Transport from port in Santorini to Oia

I need help trying to figure out inexpensive options for transport between Santorini's main port, Athinios, and my hotel in Oia. I have been trying to email the hotel I'm staying at but I never get a response from them. According to Lonely Planet I can book a taxi in advance for €13. how far in advance does this need to be done? What are other inexpensive options?

LP has it all wrong. The taxi will cost more than that, probably €25-30. There is a port bus for €2 that takes you into Fira and from Fira you can catch the next bus to Oia for €1.4. You can also book a seat on a minivan shuttle. http://www.santorinitransfer.com

Lee's right on the taxi from the port. Seems to me last fall it was about 25 euros. The bus to the station in Fira, then a bus to Oia is doable. However.....we tried that and found that the last bus for the day for Oia had already left. Ended up taking a cab anyway. If you're getting into Santorini late, make sure the bus is still running to Oia. From Oia to the dock was also a problem for us. Waited for the bus to Fira and when it came it was full! Had to take a cab once again. Seems like kind of a rip-off but it's a long drive to Oia so you can see the reason for the high fare. Also, often cabbies have to return empty and gas is expensive. The buses with luggage can be a hassle so maybe it's better just to bite the financial bullet and pay the cab fares. Anyway.....the view of the caldera from Oia is worth it!

Gabriel, I pre-arranged my transfers on Santorini with one of the Greek Travel Agencies listed on Matt Barrett's website, and the service was excellent! As the others have mentioned, it's a bit of a drive to Oia so Taxi will be expensive. The distance is not the only problem. The traffic can be thick at times and moves slowly (especially with those darn Quads) and the roads are narrow and winding. I've never used any of these services, but you might have a look at This, This website or This, as one of them might work for you. Happy travels!

I've been coming to Santorini for six years now, and while bus and taxi service is sometimes unpredictable, santorinitransfer.com is always dependable. Fair prices, great drivers and their private tours offer great value, too. Local guides who speak fluent English. Teriffic people!
