We would like to take a train from Zagreb to Budapest Tuesday morning March 15th. Does anyone have advise of how to book tickets? In advance? Online? At the station?
I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong, but I do not believe you can purchase train tickets for this route in advance (unless you purchased from a third party seller like RailEurope.com, who will put a mark-up on the tickets). If this trip were mine, I would wait until the day I arrived in Zagreb to purchase the tickets. It's even better if the day you arrive in Zagreb is a few days before you are set to travel on to Budapest. Lastly, rumor has it that the price of a round-trip Zagreb-Budapest ticket is cheaper than a one-way ticket. I've not personally confirmed this, but it might be worth asking at the train station for the price of both options.
We booked the ticket in two days in advance at the station with no problems. At least when I took the trip (2008), it was cheaper to book round trip than one way
