Does anyone know how to find the 4 hour direct train from Ljubjlana to Venice mentioned in Rick Steve's newest edition of Croatia & Slovenia? All I can find is a train that leaves at 2:22SAM and stops everywhere! It doesn't arrive until after 2:00PM as I recall. That's well over 4 hours.
This link has all the info you need re trains: http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passengers/abroad/italy
It also gives several bus options.
The 4-ish hour train is still there, but departs at 2:28AM, not the best option (last I checked, the buses also leave around this same ungodly hour).
You also do have to change to a bus briefly in Trieste - so it's not like a nice comfy night train you can sleep on.
What time of year are you going? There are ferries which run more often in the spring/summer. Also, driving a car is not a terribly bad deal with more than 3 people...
