Does anybody know whether this service is available. I have checked timetables/routes etc without any luck. Please help!!!!!!!!!!
From Naples to Pompeii it's actually a train that's called the circumvesuviano that provides transport in the area. It is more like a metro, as it runs about twice an hour quite regularly. It doesn't depart from the main train station in Naples, rather a separate train station located about a mile from the main one. There's no need to purchase a ticket in advance, seeing as it is like a metro and tickets can be purchased right before you depart for about one or two euros in most cases (depending on how long you'll be on the train).
Sorry, but i need to correct what the previous poster wrote. There is no train service at the Naples airport. There are two bus lines and the buses stop right by the central train station. The Circumvesuviana trains depart from the lower level of that station, not from a station a mile away.
Tim is absolutely correct BUT it is such a long walk (to the right when entering the station) to the platform that it seems like a mile. The area was under construction last year and the signage was not good but keep walking you will find it. Hopefully the construction is completed this year.
