Train Travel - Prague to Krakow

I can now answer my own question of two months ago In October, my cousin and I purchased a sleeping compartment for two on the night train from Prague to Krakow directly from the train company at the Prague station. It was a 10-hour trip, triple locks on the door, wash basin, and a good night sleep, which allowed us us an extra day's travel The total price for two was about $150. We arrived in Krakow at 7 a.m., checked into our hotel and were on the Auschwitz tour by 9:30.
The recommended hotels in Budapest (The Cotton House), Prague (Dum u Velke Boty), and Krakow (Globtroter) were perfect for us. We arrived in Budapest from Seattle, had arranged a taxi to and from the airport through our hotel ($20 each way), took a (6:50 p.m.) flight from Budapest to Prague on Czech Air, airporter pickup directly to our hotel ($20), and the night train from Prague to Krakow. This allowed us four full days in each city. We did all the arranging on the internet except for the train. We used public transportation in the cities, did most of what R.S. recommended (the Baths were great), the walking tours, attended wonderful concerts as often as we could, enjoyed the people, the food, and the beer it was sensational and I'm not even a beer drinker. From Krakow, we flew to Rome on Lot Air. Hope this helps someone Thanks to all of you who helped us. Shirley

Thanks for the report back, Shirley. It is really helpful when advice is freely given here to know how things actually worked out. (I don't think that I actually helped with your thread) Your report is the first part of your dues. Now your job is to watch the helpline and chip in when questions about that part of the world are asked. Welcome to the team... ;-)

Yay, Shirley! I'm glad you reported back and that your trip went well. I was starting to get worried... ;) The baths in Budapest was probably my favorite part of the city!
