We will be making our way by train from Frankfurt to meet the ETBD tour (Sept 09) in Tallinn. All looks okay for train travel except from Riga to Tallinn. I keep reading the tracks are under repair and bus travel from Valga to Tartu is necessary. Has anyone recent experience in getting from Riga to Tallinn? Any info appreciated. Joan, Chicago
I believe the common way of travel between those 2 cities is by bus. I know that is what I did about 5 years ago - took the Eurolines bus between the cities. I didn't think there many train options or at least ones that worked for tourists.
Couple of suggestions.
Check out the thorn tree forum on the lonely planet website.
Also, go to inyourpocket.com and download the free guides for your city - they should tell you what your options are.
Same story. Not much train service within the Baltic countries. I took a bus from Riga to Tallinn 4 years ago.
